I’m running a test.  In my post on Blocking Kyivstar From Accessing Your WordPress Site from January, I first said that “‘admin’ isn’t a valid username on this blog and it shouldn’t be on yours, either!”.  Since then I’ve used similar sentiments a few times, but ever since the original post this blog has been pounded by hackers trying to brute-force their way into the ‘admin’ account.  I’m wondering if my use of the word ‘username’ in the post caused them to mistakenly think that ‘admin’ was a real username.

So here goes

The admin username is ‘HackersSuck’

It’s not, really.  But lets see if this gets picked up and we see a bunch of attempts with this new, fake username.  I’ll let you know how this goes.

UPDATE 6/17/2014:  Nothing happened.  Not a single bad attempt was logged with the ‘HackersSuck’ username.
